The Perfect Beach Day at Zephyr Cove Resort

So I just took my five year daughter to Zephyr Cove beach this past Saturday afternoon. It was late in the day and I new parking would probably be impossible, but at 3pm we squeaked in a spot even though the signs said parking was full. The gal at the entrance gate was very friendly and even suggested where we head to park. We paid our $8 for the entrance fee and got a spot up front!

Now I knew this was the hot spot for young adults looking for a day of sun, fun and drinks on the beach, but I was impressed with everything else that this beach delivered. There were limber 20 somethings playing volleyball on four separate courts, a sport I have long given up. As we made our way towards the south end of the beach there was an outdoor bar area serving up ice cold beer and lots of hot beach goers drinking it up. There was a vender selling bikini’s on the beach, what a bright idea! Here would you find the perfect figures to fit them. There was plenty of “people watching” going on, yet somehow I felt like we fit in. There were families with little tikes and even a couple of seniors spotted here and there. Of course the 20 year old’s out numbered us all, but the energy was fun. I noticed up the shoreline was the “family scene” at the north end of the beach, just past the pier.

Now my five year old was in her own happy world. I buried her in sand twice up to her neck and she never once took notice of the boys playing frisbee just a few feet way. Of course she jumped at the idea of getting a drink from the snack bar AND a gourmet shaved ice – watermelon flavored to be exact.  As she ate, we watched a bride and her bridesmaids walk by into the forested area. We sneaked a peak and I was impressed with the roped off section of beach they made for her special wedding event. Then we headed towards the pier and watched the afternoon crowd unload from the M.S. Dixie boat cruise. Even the Woodwind II, a 50 foot catamaran, had made it’s way in. There were all types of boat and watercraft rentals there near the pier. They really had this place dialed in. Of course the scene was picturesque with the boats moored off in the cove and views of Mt Tallac off in the distance.

There is a lot to be said for Zephyr Cove Resort and I can see why people flock here. The Zephyr Cove Stables are within walking distance and across the street is Zephyr Cove Campground. The South Lake Tahoe casinos are just a couple miles up the road for the party goers to migrate to once the beach scene starts to then out. I think next time we will come earlier and claim our perfect spot.
