Heavenly Gondola and

Heavenly's Gondola is Lake Tahoe's "must see and do" attraction, a year-round sightseeing opportunity unlike any other! Located one-half block west of Stateline, the Gondola is steps from most major lodging facilities. The eight-passenger cabins take you 2.4 miles up the mountain in 12 minutes while you enjoy views of Lake Tahoe.

Adventure Peak - Heavenly's high-altitude "Adventure Peak" is located at the top of the Gondola. In the winter you can enjoy snow tubing, sledding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing! A lift-accessed tubing hill provides snow enthusiasts with hours of fun. Plus, with acres of wide-open terrain, everyone in the family will enjoy snowplay and sledding. The park also offers 4k of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Adventure Peak Hours: 10:00 - 3:00, seven days a week.

Lake Tahoe Historical
Society Museum

Located at 3058 Hwy 50, South Lake Tahoe, next to South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce. Features outstanding collection of artifacts from Lake Tahoe's earliest days. A complete look at the Lake Tahoe's area history. Visit an authentic toll booth built in 1859 that was located at the base of Echo Summit. Walk-through and look at an authentic 1930's summer cabin, and view a chronological exhibit of artifacts from Lake Tahoe's early days to present. Hours Memorial Day thru Labor Day: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm 7 days a week. September thru Memorial Day: Saturdays & Sunday's only 12:00 noon - 4:00 pm.
Tahoe Douglas Visitor Center

Located in Round Hill, Nevada about 1 mile from the South Lake Tahoe Casinos. Complete with brochures and maps on everything available in Lake Tahoe. From vaction rentals to real estate and more! Also, a unique display of interesting facts about Lake Tahoe, it's history and future. Located with the Lake Tahoe Chamber, Douglas.
Tallac Historic Site

Located 3 miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Hwy 89. The Tallac Historic Site is home to the archeological remains of the Tallac Resort and 3 large summer estates built by wealthy San Franciscans in the late 1800's and the early 1900's. The Pope Estate, built in 1894, is open for guided tours and houses changing art exhibits. Valhalla is a Grand Hall with beautiful wood floors, an open wood beam ceiling, a balcony of lodge pole construction and a 20 foot high stone fireplace! It was built in 1923 and is now the site of the Tuesday and Thursday concerts, the Cultural Arts Gift Store and is available for rental. Call for tour information.
Taylor Creek Visitor Center

Located 2 miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Hwy 89. Stream Profile Chamber allows visitors to view the Kokanee Salmon in their natural habitat. Experience what it would be like to go below the surface of Taylor Creek. The floor-to-ceiling glass bay windows, waterfall, creek-bottom-like walking surface and sound effects allow visitors to experience the Taylor Creek environment without getting wet! Trout, crayfish, insects, frogs, and other inhabitants of Taylor Creek might be seen displaying some of their natural survival habits. Viewing hours vary with the season, so call ahead. Admittance is free.
Vikingsholm Castle &
Emerald Bay

A spectacular view of Tahoe and Emerald Bay - one of the most photographed bays in the world. Vikingsholm Castle is located at the head of Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe on Hwy 89. Molded after Scandinavian style architecture, this castle was built in 1929 by Ms. Lora Knight. Not accessible by car. One mile trial from the parking lot to bottom of Emerald Bay. Tours are available 7 days a week from mid-June until the end of September from 10am to 4pm. All tours are guided and take approximately one-half hour.

Donner Summit Bridge
On Old Hwy. 40
Truckee - Beautiful views, near to area where Chinese workers labored to construct the transcontinental railroad across the Sierra. Travel 2.5 miles west on old Hwy. 40 to the China Wall turnout. The scenic overlook is .3 miles west.
Historic Fanny Bridge
In Tahoe City

Located in beautiful Tahoe City, this bridge received its name from all of the fannies that can be seen from the road as gawkers stare over the edge into the cool waters. Located over the only outlet of Lake Tahoe, Fanny Bridge is a historical spot. Be sure to count the fannies as you drive over the bridge.

Historic Downtown Truckee   Truckee - Located in Truckee's historic commercial row. Distinctive shops, excellent restaurants, fun bars, all surrounded by beautiful mountains and lakes. A great way to spend an afternoon and experience a bit of the historic town of Truckee.
The Thunderbird Lodge

The Thunderbird Lodge estate is one of the best examples of a historic "Tahoe society" estate and a 6-acre historic district listed in the National Register of Historic Places, which is surrounded by over 40,000 acres of Forest Service and Nevada State Parks land. Previously known as the Whittell Estate. Located on Lake Tahoe's east side. Tours are available May through October. Call for details.
Sand Harbor State Park

One of the most beautiful beaches in Lake Tahoe. Located just outside of Incline Village on the East Shore. Famous for its translucent blue water and white sandy beaches. Get your camera out.

Donner Party Museum/
Truckee
Learn about the infamous Donner Party at the Donner Party Museum and Monument. Get to know the true pioneers of the old west and thier struggles to making it West to California. A great learning experience for the whole family.
Erhman Mansion

Located at Sugar Pine Point State Park in Tahoma on Hwy 89. Built at the turn of the century, this Queen Anne Victorian in Sugar Pine Point State Park represents the opulent post-mining period when wealthy businessmen built elegant summer homes at Lake Tahoe. This grand but informal summer home, called Pine Lodge, was completed in 1903 and was considered to be one of the finest in the high Sierra. Tours are 11am-4pm daily from July through Labor Day. Emigrant Trail Museum

Located at 12593 Donner Pass Road, Donner Memorial State Park, Truckee, CA. It depicts the history of the area and the people who came into this part of the Sierra, including local Native Americans, the Donner Party, and builders of the transcontinental railroad. Near the museum is the Pioneer Monument depicting the depth of snowfall that year and the Donner Party's Murphy family cabin site. Also starting at the museum is a self-guiding nature trail which is a one half mile loop. Nature trail guides are available at the museum and campground entrance station. Staff-led hikes, special feature shows, and campfires start in late June.
Gatekeeper's Museum

Located at 130 W. Lake Blvd, Tahoe City, CA 96145. The museum features the history of Lake Tahoe including Indian artifacts, natural history displays, stories of our pioneers, and the Ellen Attardi Library - a research library which includes books, oral histories, newspapers and photographs. Also houses the Marion Steinbach Indian Basket Collection. Open from May - September.
Tahoe Maritime Museum

Located at 5205 West Lake Blvd., Homewood, California. The collection includes 8 boats that are significant to the Tahoe Basin, including Shanghai, the 1890's launch discovered on the bottom of Lake Tahoe, an engine collection, a steamer room, and other relative paraphernalia. Showing regularly are videos featuring Tahoe's intriguing maritime history. Activities for kids include line tying, boat building, watercolors, and other fun arts and crafts. The museum is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day each year, Friday to Monday, 11am to 5pm.
