Angora Lakes
South Lake Tahoe

Difficulty: Easy
Distance: .7 miles one way
Starting Elevation: 7200
Elevation Gain: 265
Season: Summer, Fall

Angora Lakes are a wonderful place to spend the day with the family swimming and sunning on the sandy strip of beach on the north end of the lake. The 8,200 rocky mountain backdrop sets the stage for this beautiful area. The hike to the lakes is wide and fairly easy even for the youngest in your group. The first of the two lakes is beautiful, yet it is the second lake you will find the Angora Lakes Resort offering small rental boats, beach and rustic cabins that are so popular they booked a year in advance. This is a great place for families to spend the day enjoying the great outdoors with little hassle. Note, Angora Lakes are a busy place in the summer, so come early before the crowds. Dogs have to be on a leash.

Driving Directions: From the intersection of Highway 50 and 89 in South Lake Tahoe drive north on Highway 89 towards Emerald Bay. At approximately three miles up on your left will be Fallen Leaf Road which you will turn on and continue up to Tahoe Mountain Road, approximately two miles. Turn left on Tahoe Mountain Road and continue driving up .4 of a mile. The road will fork at which time you will turn right at that fork onto Angora Ridge Road, a dirt road. Continue up for about three miles as you climb in elevation. You will have great views of Fallen Leaf Lake on your right and the road will switch from paved to dirt several times. The parking lot will be at the end of the three mile drive. Enjoy your day!
